EezyCut Rope Cutter
Should you or your kayak become entangled on discarded ropes, nets, weeds or your own tow lines and safety tethers you are going to
require an effective cutting tool.
Using an open bladed knife to cut away entangled line close to your body while below water and possibly trapped upside down in a kayak is a terrifying predicament. The EezyCut rope cutter will efficiently and safely cut through most rope, shock chord, webbing, fishing line and nets
The design incorporates a double sided stainless steel blade bolted between two plastic shields. This makes it easy to hold and use, whilst remaining almost impossible to cut yourself. The design of the plastic frame applies downward pressure on the material being cut, as it slides along the length of the blade. The rope cutter is rated to cut ropes up to 8mm diameter, but can easily cut through 12mm diameter ropes.
I have the EezyCut rope cutting tool permanently tethered to my lifejacket by a half metre section of 4mm shock chord. The storage pouch attaches to my lifejacket via the bottom, left side tension strap. When not deployed the rope cutter slides into the pouch and the velcro tab folds over to secure it. The shock chord tether is tucked out of the way behind the front panel of the lifejacket.
Conclusion
The Trilobite EEZYCUT rope cutter is exceptionally well purposed for the task and an excellent investment in your safety. The storage pouch is a simple, yet effective design and will attach to any webbing strap. Washing the blades in fresh water after use and applying a light coating of silicone grease regularly to the blade will prevent excessive corrosion taking hold. The cutter and replacement blades can be purchased from most dive shops.
