Bay Rock

Bay Rock is a small rocky islet off the coast of Magnetic Island in North Queensland. It is approximately 9.3 km from the Palleranda Boat ramp or 17 km from the Strand Beach launch site and has the following GPS coordinates S19.117505  E146.753006  Google Maps Link. As the name would suggest Bay Rock is a small rocky islet with an approximate circumference of 650 metres and rises steeply to approximately 20 metres above sea level.  There is a shallow reef area and a rocky beach on the western side.  The rest of the islet is surrounded by deep water and rugged rock faces. The tidal currents around Bay Rock and West Channel are shown on the above image  You can save a lot of energy on this trip by coordinating your travel legs with the appropriate tidal phase.  Peak tidal flow of up to 2 km/h during large tides are common. NRS Guide Gloves

These are quality kayaking gloves made from 1.5 mm neoprene with a silicone grip pattern on the palms and a stylish graphics on the top face.  The gloves have a tight comfortable fit which provides excellent cushioning and abrasion resistance on the crucial contact points between the hand and the paddle. MSR Elixr 2 Tent

The " MSR Elixir 2 " is a spacious 2 person free standing tent with two separate vestibules for storing gear.  Both the front and rear vestibules and the inner tent  have their own zippered access points for ease of entry and storage. The Inner Tent The red floor material is made of a durable 70 denier nylon with a polyurethane coating.  A water repellent coating and seam tape have also been applied to this material to provide a waterproof base.  There is also a good amount of freeboard between the base and the zippered openings which greatly aids in keeping the inside dry.  The side walls consist of 40 denier nylon sheets with sections of 20 denier nylon mesh.  The construction of the inner tent provides excellent protection from pooling ground water  and strikes a good balance between wind protection and ventilation.
